June is National Garage Door Safety month. And, at Cressy Door and Fireplace, it’s our mission to help keep you safe. Here are some tips from our friends at Garage Work Steel.
Regularly inspect your garage door and mechanical parts. Do a visual check while your garage door is opening and closing. Pay close attention to: struts, angles, rollers, pulleys, springs, cables, and bolts. Lubrication is key.
Additional Garage Door Maintenance Tips
All garage doors manufactured after 1993 are required to have sensors or photo eyes. The door is required by law to reverse within two seconds of detecting an obstruction. It must also contain a sensor which reverses within 30 seconds of the door not closing all the way.
Do you only have one way of accessing your garage door? It’s important to have two or three ways of opening your garage door. This is true for a power outage or a broken or lost device. Test each device regularly to ensure security.
Garage doors can often be a dumping ground for everything you don’t want in your house. It’s important to organize your garage regularly. Keep things stored properly and with enough room that people can get around in it safely.
To avoid injuries, always be sure to keep your hands and body away from a moving door. Teach children to be careful around garage doors as well. We call this being DOOR safe. Here’s what you need to know: Teach Your Kids To Be Door Safe
