Thermal Break Design: Garage Door Insulation at Its Best!

In an independent laboratory test, Northwest Door’s Therma Tech™ II was tested against a competitor’s insulated door. The competitor’s door was typical of the industry standard for insulated garage door construction. Both doors were 2” thick, and used identical EPS insulation cores and identical steel skins front and back. The only difference was that the NW Door had their trademarked Thermal Break design.
After two hours of direct exposure to 135 degree Fahrenheit, temperatures were measured for thermal transmission from the front to the back of the door. The Therma Tech™ II measured 94 degrees Fahrenheit as compared to the 109 degrees Fahrenheit on the competitor’s door. This is a 15.5% difference at the most critical area of the door, the section joints. The interior surface temperature of the center of the door was also measured. NW Door’s Therma Tech™ II measured 7.2% lower here as well.
You might be asking yourself, “Why?” The reason for these large differences is that the NW Door’s Thermal Break does not have metal-to-metal contact from one side of the door to the other. This reduces the thermal transmission of the door, and improves its overall insulation value and effectiveness.
This study confirmed that NW Door’s Therma Tech™ II with Thermal Break significantly outperforms the competition. All four of the NW Door’s Therma Tech™ Collection feature a Thermal Break.

The Therma Max™ R 12 is third in NW Door’s Therma Tech™ line of insulated raised steel panel steel doors. It uses high density polystyrene insulation in its sandwich construction and has a flexible joint seal and a natural Thermal Break.

NW Door Tri Tech™: View Collection
The Tri Tech™ is at the top end of NW Door’s Therma Tech™ line of insulated raised steel panel doors. It has an R 16 insulating value and uses high density polystyrene in its 3” thick sandwich construction.
