Fake Garage Door Listings

Did you know that the garage door industry has been flooded with fake business listings for years? It is already hard to choose a company that will give you a fair price and one that is reputable, but to have to figure out who the fake companies are is an added element no homeowner wants to face. Here are some tips on bringing awareness to these fake listings and how to spot them.

Seattle had the highest number of fake listings: 84% were false, and 16% were legitimate. Studies have been conducted that it is now under Google’s radar about these fraudulent ads. As fake listings continue to increase and persist, more people will be prone to be scammed. Fake listings tend to include a business name that is primarily keywords to rank higher than other listings, and a local location that does not exist. Fake local locations include virtual offices, locations in the center of the road, or field, or a location that is identical to another business. Although, not all legit garage door companies operate out of a storefront or office. A home-based business can still be eligible for a single business listing. If you come across a fake listing, report and show some evidence of why you think it is fake. This helps to get those listings taken down.
