Your garage doors are likely the hardest working appliances in your home. In fact, many families will open and close their garage doors as many as ten times per day. With all of that movement, garage door parts can wear out. That’s why it’s important to inspect your garage door on a regular basis.
At Cressy Door and Fireplace, we recommend monthly visual inspections as well as bi-yearly maintenance inspections. If you haven’t yet had your garage door serviced this year, now’s the time. The last thing you want is your garage door to fail over the winter months.
Here is our recommended inspection and maintenance schedule.
Visual Inspections can and should be made by the homeowner every month.
1. Springs – broken
2. Cables – worn strips or fraying
3. Rollers – move smoothing and quietly
4. Sections – peeling paint, rust or dents
5. Track – bent or twisted, securely attached
6. Hinges – bent or broken
Caution – the International Door Association or IDA recommends contacting a garage door maintenance professional to replace springs, cables, rollers, tracks or hinges. Garage doors are under extreme tension and can cause serious harm and even death.
Twice per year it is advisable to spray lubricant on your garage doors. Be sure to have a trained technician perform this work. We suggest lubricating all of the following every six months:
At Cressy Door and Fireplace, we highly recommends bi-yearly check-ups. Not only are they affordable, it’s quick and easy. Need a check up or service on your garage doors? The team at Cressy Door and Fireplace is here to help. Give us a call today!
